Weird friend question??

Ok so today my parents told me that my friend who I've known for 5 years told them that when she was little, her mom died and her current mom is her stepmom. She never told me this. Honestly she is one of my best friends and I want to ask her about this but I dont know how to go about it. It really scares me that she never told me this but told my parents....
